Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles

In 2013, the Nevada legislature approved the so-called driver authorization cards (DAC) for undocumented immigrants, which is considered a monumental step in the right direction when it comes to both immigrant rights and roadway safety. However, the vast majority of DAC cards will be issued to Spanish speakers, but the driver’s manual was not available in Spanish and the Nevada Department of Vehicles did not have a budget to translate the manual. Thus, the Nevada Interpreters and Translators Association volunteered to translate it for free and put together a team of four veteran translators who donated their time to translate the manual. Judy was one of the volunteer translators who helped enable language access for Spanish speakers in Nevada. The translation was completed in December 2013 and is available here.
